 ‘From nowhere, to nowhere’

This work was specifically created for the exhibition ‘Shifting Horizons’ at Odapark in Venray. The sand dunes near Venray once threatened to submerge the town, creeping closer and closer to its borders. Using sand from these local dunes I started working on making a video-installation whereby I wanted to give visitors a sense of being swallowed up by the landscape.

The work consists of a large wooden frame which lies on the floor and is filled with sand. People may enter this landscape and alter its appearance. Looking closely to the surface one can notice certain movements taking place in the sand. Slowly but surely, a sinkhole is starting to form, seemingly draining the frame of all of its sand, growing bigger and reaching for the feet of the visitors.
