‘Het volgende’

In collaboration with Anne ten Ham at ACEC in Apeldoorn

‘Het volgende’ is another collaboration between Anne Ten Ham and I, and subsequently our first performance. We started from scratch, having the entire space of ACEC at our disposal. Many ideas came and went, until we finally distilled it to the work we present now. We set out to create a path using gold leaf, kneeled opposite of each other and slowly moving in a circle, until we reached the starting point of the other person. Leaflet by leaflet, we crawled over our own golden path while restoring the broken path of the other in from of us, creating an endless loop of damaging and repairing. The circle itself grew ever so slightly, after each pass of gold, yet also diminishing after our feet swept over it again and again. The work itself may never be finished and is still changing at this moment, since the space of ACEC is also being used to host meetings and gatherings. Other visitors have now partially been destroying the circle, covering the floor with golden flakes and dust.
